A shepherd saved by his two collies after he collapsed on a remote Galloway farm has died in hospital.
Jim Campbell, 59, of High Street, Newton Stewart, was kept warm overnight by his two dogs on the hill farm at Balmaclellan, near Castle Douglas.
The shepherd, who was working alone at the time, suffered a stroke about a mile from the farm steading last week.
He was spotted by a navy helicopter and flown to Ayr Hospital where he has now died despite the efforts of doctors.
Mr Campbell's wife Mary raised the alarm when he failed to return home on 17 October.
Rescue operation
It sparked a huge rescue operation involving the Galloway Mountain Rescue team, police and civilian searchers.
He could not get back to his tractor but he managed to cover himself with bracken.
His two collies lay by his side and kept him warm for more than 12 hours.
The shepherd was eventually found the following morning when one of the dogs was spotted by the crew of a Royal Navy helicopter.
He was flown to Ayr Hospital where he has now died.
