Negotiations are close to a conclusion for a new Earlston High
Negotiations over the site for the new Earlston High School are "close to being settled".

Scottish Borders Council has selected a preferred location at Georgefield Farm rather than building on the present school site.

Problems over land purchase have held up the plans which are part of a 60m Public Private Partnership.

Education councillors have now said there is "cause for optimism" over the site negotiations.

Spokesperson Leona Bendall said the discussions were progressing well.

Talks are ongoing with watchdog bodies Scottish Natural Heritage and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency.

They have expressed concern about the possible flood risk on the site and effects on a nearby conservation area.
