Offshore firm 'could create 140 new jobs'

Sigma Offshore hopes to create new jobs this year

An Aberdeen-based offshore industry company has predicted it could create 140 jobs if it can meet new business targets.

Sigma Offshore has announced it will launch a major push of a mooring system for oil and gas production vessels at a key Australian energy event in March.

A 75:1 scale model costing £10,000 is being shipped to Perth. The real thing costs between £10m and £20m.

The company hopes the new jobs could be created by the end of the year.

Chief technology officer David Galbraith said the SMS system connects oil and gas production and storage vessels to subsea wells and pipelines.
