Search for woman as pet cat found

Catherine Mackie
Catherine Mackie has been missing since Sunday afternoon

A search has resumed in Orkney for a missing woman, who has not been seen since the weekend.

Catherine Mackie, 50, who works for NHS Orkney, was last seen at the Pickaquoy Centre in Kirkwall on Sunday afternoon.

An earlier search launched around the icy sea cliffs at Yesnaby was stood down on Tuesday. A scaled back search has restarted.

Northern Constabulary said her pet cat, which she often took with her, had been found in the Yesnaby area.

She was said to be very attached to the white tortoiseshell cat called Skye, which has been taken to Kirkwall.

Ms Mackie is described as 5ft 7in tall, thin, with short brown bobbed hair, and was possibly wearing outdoor clothing.
