A man and woman have appeared in court charged with murdering Martyn Stewart in Peterhead.

Mr Stewart, 28, was found in a flat in the Aberdeenshire town's Maiden Street on Sunday.

Elaine Young, 23, and Mark Junor, 33, both from Crimond, appeared in private at Peterhead Sheriff Court accused of murdering Mr Stewart.

They both made no plea or declaration and were remanded in custody. The case was continued for further examination.

In a statement released through Grampian Police, Mr Stewart's family said he had been a "loving son, brother and uncle who will be missed greatly."

The statement said: "We are a close and supportive family who are all shocked by this sudden loss from our lives and the way in which it happened. It hasn't really hit home yet that he's gone.

"Martin was an animal lover and in particular loved dogs. We have been heartened by the many messages of sympathy and would like to thank everyone for their thoughts."
