The aim is to tackle violence and crime in Aberdeen

A summit to examine ways of tackling alcohol-fuelled crime and violence in Aberdeen city centre has been held.

SNP councillor Bill Cormie arranged the meeting, in response to what he believes is a situation out of control.

Representatives from Grampian Police, the health service and the licensed trade were among those who met councillors on Monday evening.

Mr Cormie said he was "heartened" by support for the summit, which was approved by the licensing board.

He told BBC Scotland: "I am really pleased at the interest folk in the community and pub trade have shown.

"The collective approach will help."

He believes a "culture change" may be to blame for the problems.
