Sex offender appeal on Crimewatch

The hunt for a sex offender missing from the Aberdeen area is to feature on the BBC's Crimewatch programme.

Derek Robertson, 44, was convicted of indecent assault at Forfar High Court in December 2003 and was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison.

Robertson is believed to have travelled to London in April.

A warrant was issued for his arrest earlier this year. The Grampian Police appeal will feature on Crimewatch which starts at 2100 GMT.

Ch Insp Malcolm MacLeod said: "Derek Robertson is still believed to be in the London area and we continue to work with the Metropolitan Police to locate him.

"We have now enlisted the support of BBC Crimewatch in our efforts to trace him.

"I urge anyone with any information about Derek Robertson or of his current whereabouts to contact us on 0845 600 5700, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, or via the telephone numbers featured on the show."
