Hundreds sign Glencraft petition

Glencraft has provided work for many years in Aberdeen

More than 1,000 people have signed a petition supporting Aberdeen's Glencraft workshop for blind and disabled people.

Glencraft - which employs about 50 people, 31 with disabilities - is expected to go into administration.

First Minister Alex Salmond visited the workers this week, and said every option would be explored.

The petition was set up by the Community Union on its website, and others are being urged to sign it.

Glencraft has been in operation since 1843.

The board said last Friday there was no other option to liquidation, blaming the city council's lack of support.

However the council argued it had tried everything to support the company.

Anxious staff have been receiving advice from employment experts.
