A disabled Aberdeen couple who were assaulted and robbed on holiday in Bulgaria have arrived back home.

Grandmother Helen Thomas, 69, suffered a broken arm after she and husband Ivor, 71, were mugged.

The attack near their hotel in Sunny Beach last Wednesday left them too frightened to leave their room.

The couple were not classed a medical emergency, but they flew home to Aberdeen on Wednesday after their travel firm and insurers stepped in.

A lone male attacker had assaulted them from behind.

Mrs Thomas was thrown to the ground and her husband was struck on the face.

The pair feared not being able to return for several more days.

Their travel firm Balkan Holidays stepped in to get them home.

They left on Tuesday and got back to Aberdeen on Wednesday morning.
