Two teenagers who died in a crash which police said left a scene of "devastation" have been named.

Ryan Brown, 18, from Turriff, and Kirsty Green, 15, from Cuminestown, died when their VW Polo was involved in a collision with a Vauxhall Astra.

The crash happened on an unclassified section of the Turriff to Cuminestown road near Delagtie in Aberdeenshire.

Mr Brown, who had been driving, died later in hospital. Miss Green, who was his passenger, died at the scene.

A second female passenger in the Polo, and the driver of the Astra, were taken to hospital in Aberdeen with injuries that were said not to be serious, after the crash on Thursday evening.

Grampian Police Insp Graham Sloan said at the time: "The collision scene is one of devastation."
