Timetable changes over bus strike

First Bus in Aberdeen
First apologised over the impact of the action on customers

Special timetables will be introduced for some First Bus services in Aberdeen from the weekend due to the ongoing industrial action by staff.

A one-day strike was held on Thursday over pay, and is now being followed by an overtime ban and work to rule.

First said it was trying to minimise disruption to customers, after offering free travel on Thursday.

Full details of the special timetables from Sunday can be found at the website www.firstgroup.com/aberdeen

'Extremely disappointed'

Services 1/2, 3, 5, 12 13/13A, 14/14A, 16/16A, 17, 19, 21, and 23 will be affected.

Bob Dorr, managing director of First in Aberdeen, said: "We apologise that we are being forced to make these changes to our timetables as a result of the union's actions.

"Our aim has always been to avert industrial action and we are obviously extremely disappointed that our passengers will continue to be affected by this ongoing action.

"I'm sure many of our passengers will find it difficult to understand why they are being affected when our bus drivers have enjoyed wage rises totalling almost 14% in the last three years and are among the best paid in the industry."

Talks with the conciliation service Acas failed to resolve the First Bus dispute after staff voted for action.

Union officials claim money should be available to pay for their wage claim.

About 70% of those who voted backed the strike move.
