The funding has been hailed an important boost for the economy

Aberdeen College has been awarded a £12m grant to build a state-of-the-art construction training facility.

The money, from the Scottish Funding Council, is to provide a building alongside the current Altens campus.

It will contain workshops and classrooms for joinery, electrical and plumbing courses.

The facility will also have a new library, fitness suite and eating area. It has been hailed as an important boost for the local economy.

Aberdeen College principal Roddy Scott said: "We are delighted this has been given the go-ahead by the Scottish Funding Council.

"The construction training facility will be an important investment in the local economy and should benefit an industry which has felt the effects of recession."

The contract has been awarded to construction company Mansell.
