Google street map car in Orkney

Google car in Kirkwall
The Google car was spotted in Kirkwall on Tuesday

The controversial Google street mapping car has arrived in Orkney to capture images.

The car - used for Google's UK Street View 3D service - was spotted in Kirkwall on Tuesday and is expected to be on the islands for about four days.

It offers a 360-degree view of areas, but some people have objected.

Google has said it has gone to great lengths to ensure privacy, claiming that the service only shows imagery already visible from public areas.

Images of Shetland have already been taken.
