Plea after 'brutal' racist attack

The incident happened in Aberdeen's Alexander Drive

Two men are being hunted in connection with a "brutal" racially motivated attack that left a Polish man seriously ill in hospital.

Jaroslaw Janeczek, 39, was attacked by two men in Alexander Drive, Aberdeen, at about 0200 BST on Saturday.

The cleaner suffered head and internal injuries and was in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

Grampian Police said the incident was being treated as attempted murder and appealed for witnesses to come forward.

One of the attackers has been described as slim, between 20 and 25 years old and wearing a white tracksuit.

The other man was stocky with short black hair, between 20 and 30, and was wearing a grey or red top and blue jeans.

The pair also had two dogs which were described as a pit bull terrier type.

Det Insp Cammy Preston said: "This was a brutal, apparently unprovoked and sustained attack with what we believe to be a racist element.

"Jaroslaw is a quiet man who kept himself to himself and who came to this country to work.

"No-one deserves to be the victim of this kind of vicious assault and we are determined to do everything we can to trace his attackers."

Patrols were being carried out in the Tillydrone area and door-to-door inquiries are under way.
