Motorist badly hurt in accident

Road closed sign
The road was closed for several hours to allow an accident investigation

A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after his van crashed into a field in Aberdeenshire.

The emergency services were called to the scene of the accident on the B9001 Rothienorman to Inverurie Road near Daviot just after 0700 BST.

The 32-year-old man was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary under police motorcycle escort.

Grampian Police said the road was closed for six hours to allow accident investigators to examine the scene.

Inspector Graham Sloan said: "The driver was conveyed from the scene under police escort due to the suspected severity of his injuries.

"It is too early in our enquiry to identify the cause and I would ask that anyone who witnessed the collision contacts us."
