The deputy leader of the Liberal Democrat group on Aberdeen City Council has been suspended.

Councillor Scott Cassie has been facing allegations of financial irregularities involving Garthdee Community Council.

Mr Cassie represents Airyhall, Broomhill and Garthdee and has been a councillor for more than 10 years.

Lib Dem group leader John Stewart said members had agreed to suspend Mr Cassie as a "precautionary measure" while investigations were completed.

Mr Stewart said: "I stress again that we are dealing with allegations and that the substance, if any, of these allegations has not been established.

"The group will not pre-judge the outcome of the investigations under way but has agreed that, in the interim, the best course of action for all concerned is a precautionary suspension."

Garthdee Community Council was chaired by Mr Cassie's wife Moira, but she recently resigned.
