Robert Rose
Officers have been searching for Robert Rose for nearly three weeks

Police searching for missing Orkney man Robert Rose have recovered a body.

Mr Rose, 54, has not been seen since Saturday 6 June, leading to appeals from his family.

Northern Constabulary said the remains of a man were recovered by specialist search officers in the Conninghole area of Sanday late on Thursday evening.

Police believe the body to be that of Mr Rose but it has yet to be formally identified. A man has appeared in court charged with Mr Rose's murder.

John Campbell, 59, was charged with murder at Kirkwall Sheriff Court on Monday. He made no plea and was remanded.

Mr Campbell and Stephen Crummack, both of Sanday, were also both charged with attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

Mr Crummack, 50, made no plea and was also remanded.

A post-mortem examination on the recovered remains is due to take place in Inverness.
