An Aberdeen city councillor is being investigated over alleged financial irregularities.

Lib Dem Scott Cassie, the planning convener, has not been suspended over the matter, which is thought to be linked to Garthdee Community Council.

He has been a councillor for more than 10 years and was elected deputy leader of the Lib Dems on the city council.

Mr Cassie represents Airyhall, Broomhill and Garthdee. He was unavailable for comment.

A council spokesman said: "We are gathering information on the alleged irregularities and the matter will be dealt with appropriately."

Councillor John Stewart, the new head of the Lib Dem group on Aberdeen City Council, said if there was any substance to the allegations then appropriate action would be taken.

A Grampian Police spokesman said the force was not involved.
