Major Orkney festival under way

Andrew Motion
Andrew Motion was Poet Laureate for 10 years

One of Scotland's major cultural events - The St Magnus Festival - is getting under way in Orkney.

The six-day festival, from Friday until Wednesday, was founded in 1977 by composer Sir Peter Maxwell Davies.

Since then the event has attracted leading performers, poets and writers from around the world.

This year's line-up includes a visit to Orkney by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO), and former Poet Laureate Andrew Motion.
