Donald Trump Jnr said the developers would respect the needs of local people

The eldest son of Donald Trump has visited the estate in Aberdeenshire where plans are under way for the tycoon's £1bn golf project.

Donald Trump Jnr said the needs of local people would be respected during the development.

His visit coincided with the announcement of the the appointment of Sarah Malone as executive vice president of the Menie development.

She has been the director of the Gordon Highlanders Museum in Aberdeen.

US tycoon Mr Trump Snr has vowed to build the world's greatest golf venue at Menie.

The plans for two championship golf courses, 950 holiday homes and 500 houses were rejected by an Aberdeenshire Council committee before being called in by the Scottish Government and approved.

'Understand needs'

Mr Trump Jnr has been asked by his father to take an active role in the development.

He said employees such as Ms Malone would help them "understand the needs and wants of local people".

He said said they were making "great strides" in negotiations with a number of locals with whom they hope to buy land.

Ms Malone said: "This is going to put the north east of Scotland on the map.

"For too long, despite everything we have to offer, the region has been overshadowed, but I think with this project that can change.

"Mr Trump is a visionary, it is a privilege to be able to work with him and his team and I'm very much looking forward to the journey ahead."
