MSP in alcohol service aid call

Alcohol
The centre is said to provide unique support for alcohol problems

An MSP has called on Scottish ministers to help secure the long-term future of a closure-threatened alcohol support project.

The scheme at Albyn House in Aberdeen, which offers a bed to people rather than hospital or a police cell, has been facing an uncertain future.

BBC Scotland revealed on Friday that Grampian Police had thrown it a financial lifeline.

North East Labour MSP Richard Baker said much more now needs to be done.

Its short-term future was secured after the joint police board agreed what was believed to be a substantial funding package.

It followed council funding cutbacks last year.
