Firefighters in Macedonia mission

Grampian firefighters prepare for trip
The team will train fire crews in Macedonia

Five Grampian firefighters have set off to Macedonia with a fire appliance and other firefighting equipment as part of a humanitarian mission.

Alan Davie, Stuart Noble, Colin Devine, Mike Cassie and Bill Kennedy left on Sunday for the five-day journey.

It is part of Operation Florian, a multi fire service charity aiding reconstruction.

The firefighters are heading for the town of Stip where they will be based and will help with training.

They will instruct local professional and volunteer fire crews from the surrounding area in firefighting techniques, including specialist training for road traffic collisions.

The fire appliance and equipment will be donated to the Macedonian crews.

A group of six Grampian firefighters took part in a similar trip last year.
