Hotel robbery manhunt under way

A robbery at a hotel in Aberdeenshire is being investigated by dozens of police officers.

A man robbed nightshift staff at the Holiday Inn in Westhill, at about 0300 BST. It is thought several thousand pounds was taken.

About 40 officers are involved in the inquiry.

Grampian Police are hunting a man about 6ft tall, wearing a light-coloured tracksuit, possibly carrying a rucksack and wearing a scarf over his face.

The man was last seen heading towards a grassed area on Westhill Drive that has been cordoned off for a detailed search.

Det Insp Martin Dunn, who is heading the inquiry, said: "I am appealing for anyone with information about the incident, or who saw this person or any other persons acting suspiciously in the area of the hotel, or in the Westhill Drive area of the town, to contact us."
