Moray child care action approved

A draft action plan to address child protection shortcomings identified by government inspectors has been approved by Moray councillors.

Inspectors had said they were not confident children at risk received the help and support they needed.

Councillors have agreed to form a sub-committee to oversee how the action plan is put into practice.

Depute convener Allan Wright said the public should be assured the situation was greatly improved since the report.

Responsibility for child protection in Moray lies with the local authority, NHS Grampian and Grampian Police, with the council as lead agency.

The council has already expressed its regret at the failings highlighted by the inspectors.
