Teenager dies after two-car crash

A teenage passenger has died after a two-car crash on the A96 near Huntly in Aberdeenshire.

Police said the crash, involving a Peugeot 206 and a Volvo XC90, occurred at about 1500 GMT near to the access road to Bin Forest.

The 17-year-old male driver of the Peugeot and a 16-year-old female passenger sustained minor injuries but a male passenger died at the scene.

The 42-year-old female driver of the Volvo was not injured.

All of those involved lived locally.

The road was closed for more than seven hours.

Inspector Scott Mann, of Grampian Police's roads policing unit, said: "Tragically, another young person has died today as a result of a road collision.

"This will be an extremely difficult period for the family and friends of that individual and my thoughts are with them at this sad time."

He said inquiries were at a very early stage and appealed for witnesses to contact police.
