Pupils to be shown bus safety DVD

Robyn Oldham and Alexander Milne
Robyn Oldham and Alexander Milne lost their lives in crashes

Pupils throughout Aberdeenshire are to be shown a new DVD which focuses on school bus safety, in the wake of recent deaths.

Aberdeenshire Council and offshore company Talisman are working on the safety project.

It will be shown to school children from the middle of January.

It follows the deaths of local pupils Alexander Milne, 12, and Robyn Oldham, 15, who were struck by cars as they got off buses earlier this year.

Both died within days of each other in September.

Fraserburgh Academy pupil Alexander died after he was hit by a car just outside his home at Lonmay on 19 September.

His death came two weeks after Turriff Academy pupil Robyn died after being struck by a car moments after getting off her school bus.

More than 12,000 pupils are transported to and from school in Aberdeenshire every year.
