Drink-drive operation catches 16

Breathalyser
Police said the number of drivers caught was encouraging

A 60-year-old man who was nearly four times the drink-drive limit was among 16 motorists reported for such offences during a police clampdown.

The Grampian force said 14 men and two women were caught committing drink-drive offences in the past week.

The 60-year-old was arrested in the Peterhead area.

Ch Insp Tom Forrester said: "The fact that only 16 people have been detected hopefully is an indication that the message is getting across."

It came after the first week of the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (Acpos) festive drink-drive campaign.

Chf Insp Forrester added: "Our patrols will continue throughout the campaign with additional road checks being carried out in the early morning to deter and detect those who choose to drink and drive the 'morning after'."
