Death speed 'as much as 100mph'

Craig Yule
Craig Yule died in hospital after the accident

A driver could have been doing 100mph shortly before an Aberdeenshire crash killed his friend, a court has heard.

Craig Yule, 19, of Huntly, died after Iain Campbell's Subaru Impreza hit a tree on the A97 Huntly to Banff road on August last year.

Campbell, 25, of Cairnie, admitted causing death by dangerous driving.

Judge Lady Smith called for background reports and remanded Campbell in custody at the High Court in Edinburgh pending sentence later this month.

Two back seat passengers who, unlike Mr Yule, were not wearing seat belts were thrown clear.

Relatives said in a statement at the time: "Craig always lived for the moment. It is a huge waste of a young life."
