Aberdeen Art Gallery is hosting the only Scottish showing of the dozens of works until 24 January.
Gallery and museums manager Christine Rew said: "The BP Portrait Award has produced an amazing and diverse range of contemporary portraits."
This year's competition attracted more than 1,000 entries.
London artist Mr Mylie won for K, depicting his partner Katherine Raw.
Tim Smith, external affairs director for BP Scotland, said: "We are delighted to be bringing the prestigious BP Portrait Award to Aberdeen again.
"The quality and variety of entries shows that portraiture continues to thrive in the UK and internationally."
