Bus staff vote for strike action

First bus - generic
The ballot followed a pay offer being rejected

Drivers and other First Bus staff in Aberdeen have voted in favour of strike action over pay, BBC Scotland understands.

The company has offered what it described as a "significant" pay rise of 3.7% to drivers, cleaning staff and engineering staff.

The Unite T&G union is calling for a 5% pay increase.

Details are expected to emerge later about the type of industrial action which will be taken by union members.

BBC Scotland revealed last month that the workers in Aberdeen were to be balloted after rejecting a 3.7% offer.

Meanwhile, Stagecoach staff in Aberdeenshire and the Highlands are to be consulted after further talks aimed at averting strike action.
