Students campaign over new union

Aberdeen students say they want their own union bar

Students at the University of Aberdeen have launched a campaign to stop them being left without a union.

The University Union has occupied a bar in Littlejohn Street since the main Gallowgate building closed in 2004.

It will close when a lease runs out in December. Aberdeen University Students' Association (Ausa) is worried that there is little other social space.

There are bars and cafes on campus. The association said a new union would not be a subsidised drinking den.
