Community support after boy dies

The community of Stonehaven is offering support to relatives of a "happy little boy" who died after a bike accident.

Popular Wezlee Clark, nine, was riding his bike when it was in collision with a car on Tuesday evening.

Wezlee was initially taken to the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital, then transferred to hospital in Edinburgh, where he died on Thursday afternoon.

Rev Rosslyn Duncan told the BBC Scotland news website: "The whole community is affected. It's so sad."

Rev Ducan, of Dunnottar Parish Church, said: "It will be a great shock for the family, we are supporting them as well as we can."

'Bright smile'

Mill o' Forest Primary School acting head teacher Melanie Fowler said: "Pupils and staff at Mill o' Forest Primary School are deeply saddened by this tragedy.

"Wezlee was a popular, well-mannered pupil who worked hard and had an enthusiastic outlook for life. Wezlee was a lovely, happy little boy, always greeting you with a cheery 'hello' and bright smile.

"He will be missed immensely by all at Mill o' Forest School, and our thoughts are with his family at this very difficult time."

Insp Scott Mann of Grampian Police's roads policing unit said: "This is an absolutely tragic incident, in particular because Wezlee was so young.

"My thoughts and sympathies are with his family and friends at this sad time. Our enquiries to establish the circumstances of the collision are at a very early stage and will continue over the coming days. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal."

The 30-year-old female driver of the Mazda was taken to hospital in Stonehaven but was released following treatment for shock.

A section of Farrochie Road was closed for about eight hours while a collision investigation was carried out.
