A nine-year-old cyclist who suffered head injuries after a collision with a car in Stonehaven has lost his fight for life.
Wezlee Clark was riding his bike in the Farrochie Park area at about 1700 BST on Tuesday when the collision with a grey Mazda 3 happened.
Wezlee was initially taken to the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital.
He was later transferred to hospital in Edinburgh, where he died on Thursday afternoon.
Insp Scott Mann of Grampian Police's roads policing unit said: "This is an absolutely tragic incident, in particular because Wezlee was so young.
"My thoughts and sympathies are with his family and friends at this sad time. Our enquiries to establish the circumstances of the collision are at a very early stage and will continue over the coming days. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal."
The 30-year-old female driver of the Mazda was taken to hospital in Stonehaven but was released following treatment for shock.
A section of Farrochie Road was closed for about eight hours while a collision investigation was carried out.
