The comedian has taken over the role from Green MSP Robin Harper.

The ceremony ended with Mr Robertson being carried by the student mascot, Angus the Bull, to the St Machar Bar to buy a traditional round of drinks.

He said: "As a graduate of the University of Aberdeen I am absolutely delighted to have been selected by the students of to serve as their rector."

Mr Robertson had received 928 votes, edging out Aberdeenshire councillor Martin Ford with 852.
