Councillors have backed calls for changes in national legislation after a 12-year-old boy was killed when he stepped off a school bus.
Fraserburgh Academy pupil Alexander Milne died on Friday and his parents have called for action to stop school buses being overtaken.
Three local councillors have backed the calls from Aberdeenshire Council's director of education for new laws.
They have asked for a review of drop-off procedures.
Cllrs Anne Allan, Fiona McRae and Robert Thomas also hope for even greater efforts by schools to ensure all pupils have a thorough knowledge of road safety.
'Grieving pupils'
Meanwhile, acting rector of Fraserburgh Academy, John Noble, said: "We have been holding assemblies in memory of Alexander and providing counselling for grieving pupils."
Alexander's parents earlier said they did not want his death to be in vain.
Alexander's father, Philip Milne, of Lonmay, told BBC Scotland: "When there's a school bus on the road everything has to stop, you just do not pass a school bus."
The death of Alexander came two weeks after Turriff Academy pupil Robyn Oldham, 15, died after being struck by a car moments after getting off a school bus.
