Police divers have recovered the body of a 30-year-old man from a car which crashed into an Aberdeenshire harbour.

The silver Audi A3 hatchback was seen plunging into the sea from a jetty near Fraserburgh fish market, off Shore Street, at about 0650 BST.

The occupant was pronounced dead at the scene.

The car has since been removed from the sea by a crane and will be examined for mechanical defects. Grampian Police have appealed for witnesses.

A police spokesman said the incident was being treated as a fatal road accident.

Anyone who saw the car enter the sea or saw it before the accident is asked to contact Grampian Police.
