Council defers spending decisions

The council is trying to make savings of almost £50m

Decisions on the future of major capital projects in Aberdeen have been referred to the full council by those examining the city's budget.

The budget monitoring board met as the local authority tries to make savings of almost £50m.

Aberdeen City Council is already committed to spending more than £11.1m this year on a new Marischal College headquarters, it earlier emerged.

The final total is expected to be more than £80m.

Aberdeen Central Labour MSP Lewis Macdonald has called for the council to consider halting the development.
