Girl killed after getting off bus

Classmates will be offered counselling after a 15-year-old girl was killed by a car moments after she got off a school bus in Aberdeenshire.

The teenager - named locally as Robyn Oldham - was hit by a Mercedes on the A947 at Birkenhills, south of Turriff, at about 1600 BST on Thursday.

The Turriff Academy pupil died after being airlifted to hospital Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Counselling will be offered to pupils on the bus at the time, and classmates.

An Aberdeenshire Council spokesman said: "This tragic news has come as a shock for all at Turriff Academy.

"The school will be offering support and counselling to pupils who were on the bus at the time, as well as the pupil's classmates.

"Our thoughts are with her family at this time."

The road was closed for seven hours to allow a collision investigation. Grampian Police appealed for witnesses.

Insp Scott Mann confirmed: "A 15-year-old female pedestrian was involved in a collision with a southbound motor car having stepped off a school bus moments earlier."

The 53-year-old female driver of the Mercedes was unhurt.

Floral tributes have been laid at the scene.

The teenager was the 21st person to die on Grampian's roads this year, and the second pedestrian to die in under a week.
