Plea made over art centre funding

Aberdeen City Council
The council is trying to make savings of millions of pounds

An arts supremo has appealed to Aberdeen City Council not to allow a new arts centre to fall victim to budget cuts, BBC Scotland has learned.

The council's budget monitoring board could decide on Friday which of its planned capital projects will have to be sacrificed.

The Scottish Arts Council's arts director Iain Munro hopes the Peacock Visual Arts project will proceed.

The council's contribution to the centre would be about £3m.

Total saving of about £50m are having to be made.
