Man's body discovered beside road

Police launched an investigation after the body was found

The body of a man has been discovered a mile from where a missing father was last seen, it has emerged.

The body, which has not yet been identified, was found in Aberdeen's Great Northern Road at about 1930 BST on Friday.

The discovery comes days after Ashley Campbell appealed for her missing husband Stuart, 32, to come forward.

Mr Campbell was last seen on 12 August after visiting his daughter at the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital.

Almost 2,000 posters appealing for information have been distributed around homes, businesses and licensed premises in the city.

Divers from Grampian Police specialist underwater unit carried out searches of the River Don earlier this week, following searches of woodland to the west of Aberdeen.

On Tuesday, officers stopped traffic and pedestrians on Westburn Road, where Mr Campbell was last seen heading towards North Anderson Drive after leaving the hospital's front entrance.

A spokesman for Grampian Police said an investigation into the body find had been launched.
