Many homes had to be evacuated after the landslide

A village hall which was badly damaged in a landslide last year is to be given a £148,000 facelift.

The hall in Pennan has lain abandoned since waterlogged soil swept down from the cliffs onto the Buchan coastal community.

Aberdeenshire councillors have now approved funding to restore it.

The money will be used to replace external walls and the roof, as well as improving disabled access. Insurers will pay about a third of the cost.

Hundreds of tonnes of mud and rock swept down onto homes in the Aberdeenshire village last August.

No-one was injured, but serious damage was caused to homes and the village hall.
