Risk of strike action for wardens

Yellow lines
The wardens want to retain their individual identities and duties

Possible strike action involving Aberdeen's community wardens and parking patrollers has moved a step closer.

It follows the breakdown of talks aimed at resolving a dispute between unions and the city council.

The council wants to merge both types of warden into a single role on the grounds of contributing to cleanliness and safety.

The wardens disagree and want to retain their individual identities and duties.

They argue issuing parking tickets would do nothing to promote good relationships in the communities where they work.

Tommy Campbell of the T&G Unite union has called for the conciliation service Acas to be brought in.

An Aberdeen City Council spokesman said all avenues would be explored if approaches were made.
