Council investigates leak claims

Aberdeen City Council
The council said the investigation would be thorough

Aberdeen councillors are being investigated over a number of leaks of "confidential information", BBC Scotland has learned.

It is understood the probe is being carried out by the council's continuous improvement department.

They are interviewing some but not all of the council's 43 members.

It has not yet been decided what sanctions, if any, councillors who are found to be responsible for a leak would face.

An Aberdeen City Council spokesman confirmed: "Aberdeen City Council is conducting an investigation into recent leaks of confidential information.

"Some information which is discussed by city councillors necessarily has to remain confidential and it is an extremely serious matter when it is allowed to enter the public domain.

"The investigation will be thorough and will seek to establish who was responsible for the leaks."
