Region drink-drive figures halved

The number of drink-drivers caught in Grampian halved during the second week of a clampdown on the problem.

Fourteen drivers were charged with being under the influence of alcohol, down from 29 charged with drink or drugs offences in the first week.

Grampian Police Ch Insp Tom Forrester said: "I am pleased that the vast majority of north east drivers have heeded the messages."

Twelve men and two women were charged in the second week of the clampdown.

The campaign is being overseen by the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland.
