Probe into mystery bird illness

An investigation is under way after dozens of dead and dying seabirds were found on Orkney.

The birds - greater black-backed gulls - seemed to be suffering from an illness which first made them lethargic and unable to fly, then killed them.

They were all discovered in and around the Peedie sea, near Kirkwall.

It is not clear if the birds were victims of disease, or some type of poison, but people have been warned to keep away from any affected birds.
