Talks on 'fat' firefighter stall

Kevin Ogilvie
Colleagues are balloting for strike action in support of Kevin Ogilvie

Talks over the case of a Grampian firefighter sacked for being overweight have so far failed to reach any agreement.

Kevin Ogilvie was dismissed after 22 years of service when Grampian Fire and Rescue Service management decided he was overweight and not fit for duty.

Colleagues are balloting for strike action in support of his case.

The conciliation service Acas is mediating. Talks which began on Thursday will resume on Monday.

Members of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) claim Mr Ogilvie could have been moved to a different post.

Grampian Fire and Rescue said its decision followed an arduous process.

The Acas talks have been taking place at Grampian Fire and Rescue Service's headquarters in Aberdeen.

A spokeswoman for the fire service said there was disappointment the meeting had so far been unable to result in an agreement to resolve the concerns raised.
