Cannabis, with a street value of £145,000, was found

A 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the recovery of 360 cannabis plants with a potential street value of £145,000.

Grampian Police's drug squad made what they said was a "significant find" at a property in the Stonehaven area.

The man was expected to appear at Stonehaven Sheriff Court on Monday.

The squad's Det Insp Malcolm Macleod said he suspected there were other cannabis factories located in the Grampian area.

He added: "We can quickly and easily confirm if a property has been converted into such a factory so any information from the public is appreciated.

"In recent months our communities have played an integral part in identifying such properties to us and I would urge them to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately."

Det Insp Macleod said that factors to be aware of included;

  • the windows of a property being permanently covered from the inside
  • visits to the property at unusual times of the day and night
  • people not living in the property but periodically visiting to maintain the cultivation
  • vents protruding through a roof or rear window
  • and large amounts of compost or gardening equipment being delivered.
