Extradition appeal woman released

Dorothy Fasola

An Aberdeen businesswoman fighting extradition to Italy will be released from custody following the death of one of the judges who heard her appeal.

The Italian authorities want Dorothy Fasola, 58, to serve a prison sentence which was imposed after she was convicted of robbery.

She is appealing against a Scottish court's decision to send her to Italy.

Lord Johnston - one of three appeal court judges hearing the case - died last month without making a ruling.

A new bench of judges will have to re-hear the appeal.

The Crown did not object to her application for interim liberation, provided she agreed to report to Bucksburn police station in Aberdeen every week and that her passport remained in the hands of the authorities.

She had been returned to jail in April as judges considered her appeal against extradition.
