The families of two sisters and a man who were killed in an Aberdeenshire crash have spoken of their devastation.

Elena Putnam, 18, and Rachel Putnam, 20, and her boyfriend Mark Gardiner, 22, all from Cullen, died on the B9022 south of Portsoy on Monday night.

The Putnam family said: "The family is devastated by the turn of events."

The Gardiner family said: "The family are deeply upset by the loss of their son and brother. He will be sadly missed."

Grampian Police said it was a "shocking and tragic event".

Two men in a van also involved were injured.

The road was closed for nine hours to allow an accident investigation to take place and police have appealed for witnesses.
