Bid to offer city pool a lifeline

Bon Accord Baths
The Bon Accord Baths is Aberdeen's oldest pool facility

Aberdeen City Council leaders are being urged to give supporters of Bon Accord Baths 60 days to come up with a viable business plan to re-open the pool.

The Friends of Bon Accord Baths want to take over the running of the venue and operate it on a not-for-profit basis.

The pool closed earlier this year because of council budget cuts.

The Labour group has written to chief executive Douglas Paterson asking him to give the campaigners more time. Mr Paterson is considering the letter.

The closure of the art deco Bon Accord Baths in the city centre - Aberdeen's oldest pool - led to a protest petition with thousands of names.

The council insisted at the time cutbacks of £27m had to be made.
